Las Vegas Strip's Margaritaville to Shut Doors by May End

Margaritaville on the Las Vegas Strip will close at the end of May.

The Margaritaville restaurant on the Las Vegas Strip will close by the end of May. Local people learned about the closure from the Las Vegas Locally X/Twitter account and Vital Vegas confirmed it. Named after Jimmy Buffett's song, the restaurant is shutting down because it couldn't renew its contract with Caesars Entertainment and it's not making enough money.

Margaritaville Las Vegas opened at the Flamingo in 2003 and quickly became known for its distinctive offerings. Here's what guests could enjoy at the venue:

  • Five different bars.
  • Two patios with views of the Strip.
  • A volcano feature that poured margaritas into giant blenders.

In 2011, the restaurant grew to add its first Margaritaville Casino next door, but it closed in 2018. Jimmy Buffett, who created Margaritaville, died from skin cancer in September last year.

Margaritaville is closing, and now Sammy Hagar, who used to lead the band Van Halen, is opening a new spot named Sammy's Island at the Palms. It's starting on May 17 and will have a tiki bar and a restaurant by the pool. Customers can order baja breakfast burritos, egg sandwiches, nachos, wings, salads, and poke bowls.

New restaurants are opening on the Strip.

Renowned Michelin-starred chef Rick Bayless is also partnering with Caesars Entertainment. His Tortazo Mexican restaurant will be joining the Caesars Palace food court in late summer. The menu at Tortazo includes tacos, guacamole, and the signature torta - a sandwich made with a soft, fluffy telera roll and black beans. Lindo Michoacan, a family-owned Mexican restaurant that opened in 1990, is opening a new location at Palace Station this spring. The restaurant, which has been popular for over 30 years, will replace the former Tacos & Tequila space.

Restaurant Shutdowns and Health Safety Breaches

But there's also bad news. Health officials shut down El Taquero Mucho for getting 47 negative points. Jack Cebu Lechon was also closed after receiving 23 negative points.

The Las Vegas Strip is famous for its great food and shows. When Margaritaville closed, it was a big change, but new places like Sammy's Island and Tortazo show that the area's restaurants keep changing. People who liked Margaritaville's tropical theme and music might miss it, but there are still many different places to eat in Las Vegas for both locals and visitors. Margaritaville's end reminds us that the Strip is always changing and it's a tough place for businesses in one of the top places for fun in the world.
