Rochester Man Avoids Jail by Pleading Guilty to Illegal Sports Betting Charge

A man from Rochester admitted to illegal sports betting and did not have to go to jail.

Louis P. Ferrari, II, who is 42 years old and lives in Rochester, NY, admitted to being guilty of running an illegal sports betting operation. He agreed to a deal that means he won't go to jail.

Ferrari might have been sentenced to five years in prison and fined as much as $250,000 for his admission to planning to share betting details and operating an illegal gambling operation.

Key Elements of the Case

  • Ferrari conspired with others to operate an illegal bookmaking business.
  • The operation took in about $2,000 per day.
  • Ferrari also operated an illegal poker room and laundered money.
  • He is alleged to have assaulted a debtor.

From 2019 to 2021, Ferrari and his group operated an illegal betting site called "sport700.com." They set up accounts for betting on sports and gathered money owed to them.

In September 2020, a police officer secretly joined a card game connected to Ferrari's illegal activities. This action brought in various police departments and ended with Ferrari admitting to the crime.

Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford is scheduled to sentence Ferrari, who prosecutors say was the main person behind the illegal betting operation, on August 7.

More than one million dollars earned from crimes were cleaned by putting them through Ferrari Excavating, which is a legitimate company.

Everyone involved in the case has admitted guilt to the charges they faced. Ferrari was the final person to do so.

Ferrari's admission of guilt means he won't go to illegal betting is still a problem and that police are working hard to stop it.
